You will not believe it: I walked up a hill and pulled my knee out of alignment with a small meniscus tear. This lead to surgery a month with out teaching and PT. Now this all sounds terrible, no teaching no taking classes. PT is time consuming and hard. Well it is worth it. I have learned so much about my body.

Doing bridge/ desk top ( may poses have more than one name) I needed to adjust my hips for proper posture

Well after surgery on my knee and PT surprise Hips go into alignment without adjusting! Now I m half way into the prescribed PT and family and travel are getting to be a pain. I miss my classes. What to do?

 Great pic right? This is how we all want to feel everyday. Well life can get in they way so you have to take time when and anywhere you are, car, grocery store, sitting at your desk even at home when everyone needs SOMETHING right then. Easier said than done...well you do not have to be on a mat eyes closed to find calm.

 I was at a studio meeting a few years back, we were talking about promotions. You know haw to get more people through the door. One of my thin colleagues came up with the idea of getting a "real person, figure" siting on a mat with all the clutter we carry around floating away. The image was unique and true for 90% of our clients, and the public. Eminently it was shot down one of my friends and colleagues ( we have work together for years and multiple studios) said "I would NEVER take a class from someone like that. Without blinking an eye I replied,"Then you would never take a class from me. Statement not judgement, I am the average body. Like most of I have to work to maintain my weight, If you have read my bio then you know...

What is "monkey mind" Have you ever been in Shavasana (also called Savasana or Corpse Pose) and you just cannot clear your mind? Cannot stay still, everything is moving and you are doing everything but check the clock to see when you can get back to your many tasks? That is Monkey Mind.

This video is so amazing, it gives me chills every time I watch it! Sharing it with clients who feel like they cannot “do” a yoga class. Yoga can not only do the poses with practice but enjoy the journey. There will be set backs and stumbles but keep going. Believe that you can and having someone with you along the journey to pick you up when you stumble can help.

 Sometimes it is hard to take a break for yourself at home. Even have a studio in my house I need to put a sign on the door saying" yoga class please do not knock or ring the bell". Taking a few minutes a day can help you become more aware of your breathing and posture. Letting your body tell you where it need some stretching and relaxation. Clear your mind, an idea that works for me is to write a list of what I need to due that day. Once the list is written my mind is clear of clutter. It could be worth a try.

It cracks me up to have a "spot" for yoga, but I get it. Once you are in a regular class "your spot" is where you are the most comfortable. Personally I like the back of the room. Unfortunately someone else might like your spot as well. More than once I have put my mat down and walked off to say hello to a friend only to return to my mat and find it moved over and someone else set up in my spot. What to do? Well this is yoga and the whole reason you walked into the class is to find balance and free your mind. Might as well start with a welcome hello to your new neighbor and sit down to start some calming breathes.

 Breathing or Prana / "Pranayama is the control and extension of the breath which awakens Prana (life force energy). Practicing the way you inhale and exhale can help you manipulate your vital energy to successfully activate or soothe your mood." In simpler terms becoming more aware of your breathing and body, which allows you to move deeper into a pose. In all my classes I tell the client that once you become aware of how your inhale and exhale finding a deeper breathe off the mat will be second nature. 

There are many styles of Prana, not all are comfortable to everyone. An example is belly breathing air enters the lungs and the belly, for this reason may have asked to not use this style. Breathing air into your belly...
